Golfweek magazine recently released their annual best Canadian golf courses lists (Modern and Classic), and British Columbia courses came up with a great scorecard!
In total, 10 British Columbia courses were named in Golfweek's best Canadian golf courses - six on the Modern Courses list of 40 - recorded below, and four on the Classic Courses list. From a handful of private courses in Vancouver and Victoria, to public courses in just about every region of BC - from Vancouver Island, to Whistler, Kamloops, the Okanagan and Columbia Valley in BC’s Rockies - BC golf courses stand out as some of the country’s best.
Golfweek has been compiling their ‘Best’ lists since 1997, and since then the magazine has built up a considerable community of raters who are briefed through educational workshops and meetings before being set loose on courses around the country. Raters - a diverse group in terms of playing ability, career profile and social background, featuring golf writers, course designers, superintendents and golf course management executives, as well as pharmacists, attorneys, school teachers and dentists - are expected to visit and play candidate golf courses and submit numeric evaluations (ratings) for all courses visited. Results of all ratings are compiled and published annually in Golfweek and on Golfweek.com.
But enough with the semantics. Without further ado, here are Golfweek’s top ranked BC golf courses in the Modern category. To read about BC's best Classic golf courses, click here. Our hearty congratulations to all the courses that made these lists - but it is the BC courses which must take pride of place in our hearts and our 'must-play' lists for 2016.
