Getting to British Columbia
Whether by air, rail, ferry, car or other means of transportation, there are a multitude of ways to arrive to your BC golf destination.
For your convenience, we've broken down the best way to arrive by your selected golf location. We also encourage you to visit our list of Frequently Asked Questions as well as our What You Need to Know page for more information prior to your visit.
Vancouver
As the largest metropolitan area in the province, you'll find the most methods of travel at this location, and it can be used to jump off to other popular golf destinations like Vancouver Island and Whistler.
Arrive by:
- Air via Vancouver International Aiport (YVR) in Richmond or Harbour Air to Downtown Vancouver
- Car via major highways including the Trans Canada (Hwy 1) going east to west, or Hwy 99 from the United States or Whistler.
- Ferry: BC Ferries has regular routes from Vancouver Island and the surrounding Gulf Islands to Horseshoe Bay in North Vancouver or Tswassen
Surrey
Less than an hour south of Vancouver, the same routes and methods of travel to Vancouver are perfect for exploring the lush golf courses of Surrey. Make sure you explore all the Lower Mainland has to offer while you're here - from lush golf courses to incredible activities.
Vancouver Island
Home to the Vancouver Island Golf Trail, your arrival method will likely depend on how long you're visiting, how many golf courses you plan to play, as well as how far from each other they are. Regional airports dot the trail, so you can plan to start at one end and work your way to the other, should you wish. Here are the ideal methods of travel:
Arrive by:
- Air via regional airports, including Victoria International, Nanaimo, & Comox, which will offer connections to larger airports or arrive via Harbour Air to Comox, Victoria, or Nanaimo from Vancouver Harbour with connections to other BC cities.
- Ferry: BC Ferries has regular routes from the Mainland, and the Black Ball Ferry and Victoria Clipper offer a route from Washington State. And starting in August 2023, Hullo will be offering foot passenger service from Vancouver to Nanaimo.
Whistler
The Sea-to-Sky Highway is considered one of the most beautiful drives in the country, so it's well worth driving your car (or renting!) and only a 2.5hr drive from Vancouver. However, if you're searching for alternate methods of arrival to Whistler, consider:
Arrive by:
- Arriving by air with a chartered helicopter or scheduled floatplane service
- Chartered car or bus service for 1-24 people
- Scheduled bus service via Epic Rides or YVR Skylynx
Kelowna & Vernon
Visit the sunny Okanagan for a host of incredible golf courses! Perfect for a golf road trip arriving from the east via Highway 1 and Highway 97, or from the south via Highway 1 and Highway 5 (Coquihalla) as well as 97C (the Connector), should you desire, or you can also get here to Kelowna and Vernon via:
- Air to Kelowna International Airport
- Bus service from Vancouver, Kamloops and other BC destinations via eBus
Kamloops
Perfectly placed on two major routes from Vancouver through the Fraser Canyon (Highway 1) or over the Coquihalla (Highway 5) as well as across the Trans Canada Highway (Highway 1) from Alberta, Kamloops is a fun road trip and perfectly placed for a few loops: Vancouver-Kamloops-Whistler or Kelowna-Vernon-Shuswap-Kamloops. However, you can always arrive directly to Kamloops via:
- Air to Kamloops Airport
- Bus service from Vancouver and other BC destinations via eBus
Shuswap
Known for lakes and houseboating, as well as a favourite recreational playground, this incredible golf destination can be easily accessed through Vernon or Kamloops, or from the east via the Trans-Canada Highway.
Kootenay Rockies
Getting to the expansive Kootenay Rockies region will entirely depend on where you're planning on playing, so we've broken it down accordingly:
- Play Golden/Revelstoke by flying into the nearest major airports of Kelowna, Kamloops, or Calgary - or embarking by car from your home base.
- Play Columbia Valley golf courses by arriving via the above airports (or Cranbrook) and driving to your destination
- Play Kimberley-Cranbrook golf courses by arriving via Cranbrook International Airport or driving from the above airports
- Play Fernie by arriving via Cranbrook International Airport or driving from the above airports
- Play Kokanee Springs by driving in or take a regional flight from Vancouver to West Kootenay Regional Airport
